When disk space on your Synology RackStation server runs out, the Synology RX1217/RX1217RP expansion unit allows you to easily and quickly increase capacity by providing 12 additional drive bays. A RAID volume on a Synology RackStation server can be expanded directly without having to reformat the hard drives, allowing for continuous operation while expanding capacity. To ensure 24/7 service availability, the Synology RX1217RP expansion unit is equipped with redundant power supplies that support automatic failover in the event of a failure in one of them.
By creating a separate volume, the Synology RX1217/RX1217RP can be used as an additional backup destination for Synology RackStation servers.
Synology RX1217/RX1217RP expansion units connect securely to Synology RackStation servers via a high-bandwidth cable, ensuring maximum data throughput and seamless operation—just as if they were internal drives in the Synology RackStation server. Thanks to the SATA 6 Gb/s interface, the installed drives are capable of delivering incredible data processing performance.
Hibernation mode can be manually configured so that the drives are automatically put into sleep mode after a specified period of system inactivity. This not only saves energy but also helps extend the lifespan of the hard drives. The RX1217/RX1217RP expansion unit will intelligently power on and off in tandem with the connected RackStation server. No user intervention is required for the system to operate intelligently and efficiently.
